About this exercise

The dumbbell decline lying leg curl is a hamstring isolation exercise performed face down on a decline bench, with a dumbbell gripped between the feet. The decline angle increases the range of motion and places greater stretch on the hamstrings at the bottom of the movement.

How to Perform

  • Set an adjustable bench to a moderate decline angle
  • Lie face down on the bench with your legs extending off the lower end
  • Place a dumbbell between your feet, gripping it firmly with the insides of your ankles
  • Begin with your legs nearly straight, allowing the hamstrings to fully stretch
  • Curl both legs upward by bending your knees, bringing the dumbbell toward your glutes
  • Squeeze the hamstrings at the top of the movement
  • Slowly lower the dumbbell back to the starting position under control
  • Keep your hips pressed down against the bench throughout
