Dumbbell Curl Press Extension

Step by step instructions, muscle activation and variants for the Dumbbell Curl Press Extension.

MediumBicepsTriceps

About this exercise

A triple-compound arm movement that chains a bicep curl into an overhead shoulder press and finishes with a triceps extension overhead, targeting the full arm in one continuous sequence. It is an efficient arm-builder that also challenges shoulder stability and coordination.

How to Perform

  • Stand with feet shoulder-width apart holding a dumbbell in each hand at your sides
  • Perform a bicep curl, rotating your palms up as you bring the dumbbells to shoulder height
  • From the top of the curl, press the dumbbells overhead until your arms are fully extended
  • With control, lower the dumbbells behind your head into a triceps extension position
  • Extend your elbows to return the dumbbells overhead, then lower through the press back to shoulder height
  • Lower the dumbbells back to the starting position by reversing the curl
