About this exercise

A rear deltoid isolation exercise performed in a bent-over stance that mimics a skier's tuck position. Holding a dumbbell in each hand with arms extended downward, you raise both arms back and slightly out to the sides, strongly engaging the posterior deltoids and upper back.

How to Perform

  • Stand with feet shoulder-width apart and hinge forward at the hips until your torso is nearly parallel to the floor, adopting a slight ski-tuck position
  • Hold a dumbbell in each hand with arms hanging straight down and palms facing each other
  • Keep a slight bend in your elbows and maintain a neutral spine throughout
  • Brace your core and raise both arms back and out in a wide arc until they are roughly in line with your torso
  • Squeeze the rear deltoids and upper back at the top of the movement
  • Lower the dumbbells slowly back to the starting position under control
