About this exercise

The dumbbell bear crawl push-up is a compound movement that combines a bear crawl with a push-up performed on dumbbells, training the chest, shoulders, triceps, and core in a single flowing sequence. Using hexagonal dumbbells as handles increases the range of motion of each push-up and adds a grip stability challenge.

How to Perform

  • Place two dumbbells on the floor shoulder-width apart and assume a bear crawl position with hands gripping the dumbbells and knees hovering just off the floor
  • Brace your core and keep your back flat throughout
  • Walk your hands forward by moving the dumbbells one step at a time while keeping your knees low
  • After crawling forward, perform a push-up by lowering your chest between the dumbbells under control
  • Press back up explosively to complete the push-up
  • Continue crawling forward and repeat the push-up for the desired reps
