Depth Jump

Step by step instructions, muscle activation and variants for the Depth Jump.

HardGlutesQuadriceps

About this exercise

An advanced plyometric drill where you step off a box, absorb the landing, and immediately jump as high as possible to develop explosive lower-body power and reactive strength. The brief ground-contact time trains the stretch-shortening cycle of the legs.

How to Perform

  • Stand on a sturdy box or step at a height of 30–60 cm
  • Step off the box (do not jump off) and land softly on both feet with knees slightly bent
  • As soon as your feet touch the ground, immediately explode upward into a maximum jump
  • Reach your arms overhead to maximize jump height
  • Land softly with bent knees to absorb the impact
  • Reset and repeat for the desired number of reps

About the Depth Jump

The Depth Jump is a foundational movement that builds strength and muscle through controlled, progressive overload. Train it 1 to 2 times per week with 3 to 5 working sets per session, gradually adding weight or reps as form holds up.
