About this exercise

A deep squat mobility drill that combines a forward reach with an upward reach to improve thoracic extension, shoulder mobility, and hip flexibility. The alternating reaches challenge spinal articulation while maintaining a stable squat position.

How to Perform

  • Stand with feet shoulder-width apart, toes turned slightly out
  • Lower into a full deep squat with heels flat on the floor
  • Reach both arms forward at shoulder height, keeping your chest open
  • From there, sweep both arms upward toward the ceiling, extending the thoracic spine
  • Lower your arms back to the forward position and repeat
  • Keep your hips low and core braced throughout the movement
  • Perform each rep in a slow, controlled manner
