About this exercise

The Deep Push-Up on Parallel Bars is a bodyweight chest exercise performed with hands gripping parallel bars, allowing you to lower your chest well below hand level for a greater range of motion than a standard floor push-up. The deeper stretch increases activation of the lower chest and maximizes muscle tension at the bottom.

How to Perform

  • Set up parallel bars close to the ground or use low push-up bars
  • Grip the bars with both hands and assume a push-up position with arms fully extended
  • Keep your body in a straight line from head to heels and brace your core
  • Bend your elbows and lower your chest below the level of the bars as far as comfortable
  • Pause briefly at the bottom to feel the chest stretch
  • Press back up to the starting position until your arms are fully extended
  • Repeat for the desired number of reps
