About this exercise

The Decline Shoulder Tap is a challenging core and stability exercise performed in a decline push-up position with feet elevated. Alternately tapping each shoulder with the opposite hand forces the core, obliques, and stabilizing muscles of the chest and shoulders to resist rotation, making it more demanding than a flat shoulder tap.

How to Perform

  • Place your feet on an elevated surface and get into a high plank position with hands directly below your shoulders
  • Brace your core and keep your hips level and square to the floor
  • Shift your weight onto your right hand and lift your left hand off the floor
  • Tap your left hand to your right shoulder, then return it to the floor
  • Shift weight to the left hand and tap your right hand to your left shoulder
  • Continue alternating in a slow, controlled manner, minimizing hip rotation
