About this exercise

The Decline Push-Up with Chair is a bodyweight pressing exercise in which the feet are elevated on a chair, shifting greater load onto the upper chest and front deltoids compared to a standard push-up. The elevated foot position increases the difficulty and targets the upper chest fibers more directly.

How to Perform

  • Place a sturdy chair behind you and get into a push-up position
  • Rest the tops of both feet on the seat of the chair
  • Walk your hands out until your body forms a straight line from head to heels
  • Brace your core and keep your hips level throughout the movement
  • Lower your chest toward the floor by bending your elbows at roughly 45 degrees from your torso
  • Descend until your chest nearly touches the ground
  • Press through your palms to push yourself back up to the starting position
  • Repeat for the desired number of reps
