About this exercise

The crunchy frog is a bodyweight core exercise performed on the floor that combines a tuck and an open extension. You balance on your tailbone, draw your knees to your chest and wrap your arms around them, then simultaneously extend your legs and open your arms — mimicking a frog's motion — to challenge the entire abdominal wall.

How to Perform

  • Sit on the floor and lift your feet, balancing on your tailbone with a slight lean back
  • Draw both knees toward your chest and wrap your arms around your shins
  • Hold the tucked position briefly, keeping your balance
  • Extend both legs out at roughly 45 degrees and open your arms out to the sides simultaneously
  • Avoid letting your heels touch the floor as you extend
  • Pull the knees back in and wrap your arms around them to complete one rep
  • Keep your core engaged throughout to maintain balance
