About this exercise

The stability ball crunch places you on an inflated exercise ball, arching your lower back over its surface to extend the starting position and increase the range of motion. The unstable surface activates additional stabilising muscles throughout the core compared to a floor crunch.

How to Perform

  • Sit on the stability ball and walk your feet forward until your lower back rests against the ball
  • Cross your arms over your chest or place your hands lightly behind your head
  • Engage your core and curl your upper body upward, bringing your ribcage toward your hips
  • Pause at the top and squeeze your abdominals
  • Slowly lower back down, allowing your back to extend over the ball to the starting position
  • Repeat for the desired number of repetitions
