Crossed Body Twist Sit-Up

Step by step instructions, muscle activation and variants for the Crossed Body Twist Sit-Up.

EasyAbs

About this exercise

A bodyweight sit-up variation that adds a rotational twist at the top, crossing the torso toward one side to engage the obliques in addition to the rectus abdominis. The twist at the peak of the movement increases oblique activation and makes the exercise more demanding than a standard sit-up.

How to Perform

  • Lie on your back with knees bent, feet flat on the floor, and arms crossed over your chest
  • Engage your core and begin to curl your torso up off the floor
  • As you reach the top of the movement, twist your torso to bring one elbow toward the opposite knee
  • Hold briefly at the top, then slowly lower back to the starting position
  • Alternate the twist direction each rep, or perform all reps to one side before switching
  • Keep the movement controlled and avoid using momentum to pull yourself up
