About this exercise

The Cross Mountain Climber Against Wall is a standing core exercise that replicates the diagonal knee-drive pattern of a floor mountain climber, performed with hands pressed against a wall at an angle. By driving each knee toward the opposite elbow in a controlled, alternating fashion, the movement targets the obliques and deep core stabilizers while significantly reducing wrist load compared to the floor version.

How to Perform

  • Stand facing a wall and place your hands on it at shoulder height, stepping your feet back until your body forms a diagonal plank line
  • Brace your core and keep your hips level throughout the movement
  • Drive your right knee diagonally toward your left elbow in a controlled motion
  • Return the right foot to the floor and immediately drive the left knee toward the right elbow
  • Continue alternating sides at a steady pace without letting your hips sag or pike
  • Perform the desired number of repetitions on each side
