About this exercise

The Close Grip Push-Up places the hands close together under the chest, shifting the primary workload from the chest to the triceps and inner chest. It is one of the most effective bodyweight exercises for building triceps strength and mass.

How to Perform

  • Start in a push-up position with your hands placed close together, directly below your chest
  • Keep your elbows tucked in close to your sides throughout the movement
  • Lower your chest toward your hands while keeping your body in a straight line
  • Stop when your chest nearly touches your hands or the floor
  • Push through your palms to extend your arms and return to the starting position
  • Keep your core engaged and hips level throughout the set
