About this exercise

The Clamshell Sit Against Wall is a hip abductor strengthening exercise performed with your back supported against a wall. With knees bent and feet together, you open the knees outward like a clamshell, targeting the glutes and outer thighs while the wall encourages an upright posture.

How to Perform

  • Sit on the floor with your back flat against a wall, knees bent and feet together
  • Keep your spine tall and core lightly engaged throughout
  • Slowly rotate both knees outward, opening them as wide as comfortable without letting your lower back round
  • Squeeze the glutes at the top of the movement
  • Hold briefly, then lower the knees back together under control
