About this exercise

A cable exercise that targets the lower portion of the chest by pressing a bar or handle downward from a high pulley in a controlled arc. The downward pressing angle places particular emphasis on the lower pectoral fibers.

How to Perform

  • Attach a straight bar to the high pulley of a cable machine and set the weight
  • Stand facing the machine and grip the bar with an overhand grip, hands shoulder-width apart
  • Position your elbows slightly in front of your torso and lean slightly forward at the hips
  • Press the bar downward in a smooth arc toward your thighs by squeezing your lower chest
  • Pause at the bottom of the movement and feel the contraction in your lower chest
  • Slowly allow the bar to return to the starting position, maintaining tension throughout
  • Repeat for the desired number of repetitions
