About this exercise

The Chest and Front of Shoulder Stretch opens the pectoral muscles and anterior deltoids by drawing the arms back and expanding the chest. It is an excellent cool-down or warm-up stretch to counteract rounded posture from pressing exercises and prolonged sitting.

How to Perform

  • Stand tall with feet hip-width apart and look straight ahead
  • Bring both arms behind your back and interlace your fingers, or simply clasp your hands together
  • Straighten your arms and gently lift them upward while simultaneously opening the chest forward
  • Draw your shoulder blades together and down as you feel the stretch across the chest and front shoulders
  • Keep your chin level and breathe deeply, allowing the chest to expand on each inhale
  • Hold the stretch for the desired duration, then slowly release
