About this exercise

The Chair Squat to Toe Stand combines a bodyweight squat with a calf raise into one fluid movement. Starting from a standing position in front of a chair, you lower into a squat until you hover just above the seat, then press back up to standing and immediately rise onto your toes. The exercise builds lower-body strength and balance while developing the quadriceps, glutes, and calves.

How to Perform

  • Stand in front of a chair with feet hip-width apart and toes pointing slightly outward
  • Push your hips back and bend your knees, lowering yourself until you hover just above the seat without fully sitting
  • Press through your heels to straighten your legs and return to a full standing position
  • At the top, shift weight to the balls of your feet and raise your heels as high as possible
  • Hold the top position briefly, squeezing your calves
  • Lower your heels back to the floor and repeat for the desired number of repetitions
