About this exercise

The calf raise with wall support is a simple bodyweight exercise that targets the gastrocnemius and soleus muscles of the calves. Placing your hands lightly on a wall helps maintain balance so you can focus entirely on the calf contraction.

How to Perform

  • Stand upright facing a wall with your feet hip-width apart and toes pointing forward
  • Place your hands lightly on the wall at about chest height for balance
  • Rise up onto the balls of both feet as high as possible, squeezing the calves at the top
  • Hold the top position for a moment
  • Lower your heels back to the floor in a slow, controlled manner
  • Repeat for the desired number of repetitions
