About this exercise

The leg press calf raise isolates the calf muscles by pressing the platform of a leg press machine with the balls of your feet. The machine supports your body and lets you safely load heavy weight to build calf strength and size.

How to Perform

  • Sit in the leg press machine and place the balls of your feet on the lower edge of the platform with your heels hanging off
  • Extend your legs to support the weight, keeping a slight bend in your knees
  • Release the safety catches and let the platform push your toes down, feeling a stretch in your calves
  • Press through the balls of your feet to push the platform away, extending your ankles fully
  • Squeeze your calves at the top, then slowly lower back to the starting position
  • Repeat for the desired number of repetitions
