MediumRear shouldersTrapezius

About this exercise

A shoulder and upper-back exercise performed standing at a low cable pulley with a rope attachment. Both arms raise simultaneously into a Y shape overhead, targeting the rear deltoids, lower traps, and rotator-cuff stabilisers — muscles critical for shoulder health and posture.

How to Perform

  • Set the cable pulley to the lowest position and attach a rope handle
  • Stand facing the machine, feet shoulder-width apart, and grasp each end of the rope with an overhand grip
  • Hinge slightly forward at the hips, keeping your back flat and core braced
  • With nearly straight arms, raise both arms diagonally upward and outward to form a Y shape
  • Squeeze the shoulder blades together and downward at the top of the movement
  • Hold briefly, then lower the rope slowly back to the starting position
  • Avoid shrugging the shoulders; keep them depressed throughout
