About this exercise

A unilateral cable row performed standing that isolates the rear deltoid and upper back. Pulling the handle upward and outward at shoulder height specifically targets the rear deltoid, making it an effective accessory movement for balanced shoulder development.

How to Perform

  • Set a cable pulley to the lowest position and attach a single-handle
  • Stand facing the machine and grasp the handle with one hand, stepping back to create tension
  • Stand with a slight forward lean and the working arm extended toward the pulley
  • Pull the handle upward and out to the side, leading with the elbow until it reaches shoulder height
  • Squeeze the rear deltoid at the top of the movement
  • Slowly return the handle to the starting position under control
  • Complete all reps on one side before switching arms
