About this exercise

A unilateral cable triceps exercise performed standing, with the working arm held horizontal (parallel to the floor) and the elbow extending against the cable's resistance. Setting the pulley at shoulder or chest height keeps the arm horizontal throughout, providing constant tension on the triceps long head.

How to Perform

  • Set the cable pulley to shoulder height and attach a single-D handle
  • Stand facing the machine and grasp the handle with one hand, palm facing down or inward
  • Step back slightly to create tension and adopt a staggered stance for balance
  • Raise your upper arm to shoulder height so it is parallel to the floor, with your elbow bent at roughly 90 degrees
  • Keeping your upper arm fixed and horizontal, extend your elbow until your arm is fully straight
  • Squeeze your triceps at full extension
  • Slowly bend your elbow back to 90 degrees, controlling the cable
  • Complete all reps on one arm before switching sides
