About this exercise

A unilateral cable fly performed standing that isolates each side of the chest independently for improved muscle balance and a deep stretch through the pectorals. The standing position engages the core for stability while the cable maintains constant tension throughout the arc.

How to Perform

  • Set the cable pulley to chest height on a cable crossover machine and attach a single-D handle
  • Stand sideways to the machine with feet shoulder-width apart, gripping the handle with your outer hand
  • Step away from the stack to create tension, keeping a slight bend in your elbow
  • Sweep your arm forward and across your body in a wide arc, keeping the elbow angle fixed
  • Squeeze your chest at the peak of the movement when your hand crosses your midline
  • Slowly return your arm back to the starting position under control
  • Complete all reps on one side before switching to the other arm
