About this exercise

The cable standing serratus crunch targets the serratus anterior and obliques by pulling a high-pulley cable downward and forward while crunching the torso. Standing upright keeps the core under constant tension throughout the movement, making it an effective isolation exercise for the lateral abdominal wall.

How to Perform

  • Attach a rope handle to a high pulley cable machine and stand facing the machine
  • Grasp the rope with both hands and step back slightly to create tension
  • Hold the rope near your head with elbows bent, bracing your core
  • Exhale and crunch your torso downward and slightly forward, pulling the rope toward your knees
  • Focus on contracting the obliques and serratus at the bottom of the movement
  • Slowly return to the upright position under control, allowing a full stretch at the top
  • Keep your hips still throughout — movement comes only from the torso
