About this exercise

The cable standing one-leg calf raise uses a low cable pulley to add resistance to a unilateral calf raise. Training each leg independently helps correct strength imbalances between legs and allows a deep range of motion. The cable provides constant tension throughout the movement.

How to Perform

  • Attach a single-D handle to a low cable pulley and set an appropriate weight
  • Stand facing the machine and hold the handle at your side with one hand
  • Place the ball of the working foot on a raised platform or the floor, lifting the opposite foot off the ground
  • Lower your heel as far as comfortable to feel a full calf stretch
  • Drive through the ball of your foot and rise up onto your toes as high as possible
  • Pause at the top and squeeze the calf
  • Lower your heel slowly back to the starting position and complete all reps before switching legs
