About this exercise

The cable standing one arm triceps extension isolates the triceps unilaterally using a high-pulley cable machine, allowing each arm to be trained independently for balanced development. The cable provides constant tension throughout the full extension range, which is particularly effective for the long head of the triceps.

How to Perform

  • Attach a single-D handle to the high pulley of a cable machine
  • Stand facing the machine, grasp the handle with one hand, and position your upper arm close to your head pointing upward
  • Step slightly away from the machine to create tension on the cable
  • Keep your upper arm stationary and extend your forearm downward and forward until the arm is fully extended
  • Squeeze the triceps at the full extension point
  • Slowly bend the elbow to return to the starting position, feeling a stretch in the triceps
  • Complete all reps on one arm before switching
