About this exercise

The cable standing lat pulldown is performed standing in front of a cable machine, pulling a bar or handle down toward the chest. The standing position challenges core stability and requires more body control than the seated version, while still effectively targeting the latissimus dorsi.

How to Perform

  • Stand facing the cable lat pulldown machine with feet shoulder-width apart
  • Grip the bar with an overhand grip slightly wider than shoulder-width
  • Brace your core and maintain a slight forward lean from the hips
  • Pull the bar down toward your upper chest, driving your elbows down and back
  • Squeeze your lats at the bottom of the movement
  • Slowly allow the bar to rise back to the starting position, fully extending your arms
