About this exercise

A unilateral cable exercise that isolates the hip flexors by driving one knee forward and upward against cable resistance. Performed standing at a low pulley with an ankle strap, it directly targets the rectus femoris and iliopsoas while requiring core stability throughout.

How to Perform

  • Attach an ankle strap to a low cable pulley and secure it around one ankle
  • Stand facing away from the cable machine with feet hip-width apart, holding a support for balance
  • Keep your torso upright and core braced
  • Drive the strapped knee forward and upward as high as comfortable, flexing the hip fully
  • Pause briefly at the top of the movement
  • Slowly lower the leg back to the starting position under control
  • Complete all reps on one leg before switching to the other
