About this exercise

The cable standing high reverse fly targets the rear deltoids and upper back by pulling both high-pulley cables downward and outward in a reverse fly motion. Using the cable crossover machine with the pulleys set high provides constant tension on the rear delts, making it an effective isolation exercise for the posterior shoulder.

How to Perform

  • Set both pulleys of a cable crossover machine to the highest position and attach a single handle to each
  • Stand in the center of the machine and cross your arms to grasp the left handle with your right hand and the right handle with your left hand
  • Step back slightly to create tension on the cables, with arms extended in front of you at shoulder height
  • With a slight bend in the elbows, pull both handles outward and downward in a wide arc, squeezing the rear delts
  • Continue until your arms are fully extended to your sides
  • Slowly return to the crossed starting position with control
  • Keep your torso upright and core engaged throughout the movement
