About this exercise

The cable standing back wrist curl isolates the forearm extensor muscles by curling the wrist upward against cable resistance while standing. It targets the brachioradialis and wrist extensors on the outer side of the forearm, improving grip balance and reducing injury risk.

How to Perform

  • Stand facing the low pulley cable machine and grip the straight bar with an overhand (pronated) grip, hands shoulder-width apart
  • Step back slightly and let your arms hang in front of you with elbows slightly bent and wrists in a neutral position
  • Allow the wrists to flex downward under the cable tension to achieve a full stretch
  • Slowly curl your wrists upward as far as comfortable, squeezing the forearm extensors at the top
  • Pause briefly at the top, then lower the bar back down in a controlled manner
  • Keep your elbows stationary and your upper arms close to your body throughout the movement
