Step by step instructions, muscle activation and variants for the Cable Split Stance Single Arm Row.

MediumMiddle back

About this exercise

A unilateral cable row performed in a staggered split stance, targeting the latissimus dorsi and mid-back while demanding core stability to resist rotation. The offset foot position increases the anti-rotation challenge compared to a standard single-arm row.

How to Perform

  • Set the cable pulley to about waist height and attach a single-D handle
  • Stand in a staggered split stance facing the machine, with the foot opposite to your working arm forward
  • Grasp the handle with your working hand, arm fully extended toward the cable
  • Brace your core and keep your torso upright throughout the movement
  • Drive your elbow back and pull the handle toward your hip
  • Squeeze your back at peak contraction, then slowly return your arm to the start
  • Complete all reps before switching to the other side
