About this exercise

A unilateral cable isolation exercise that targets the triceps by pushing a rope handle down from a high pulley using one arm at a time. Training each arm independently allows you to correct strength imbalances and achieve a fuller contraction at the bottom of the movement.

How to Perform

  • Attach a rope handle to a high cable pulley and grasp one end with one hand, palm facing inward
  • Stand facing the cable machine and take a slight forward lean with a stable stance
  • Position your elbow tight to your side and slightly in front of your torso
  • Push the rope handle down and slightly outward until your arm is fully extended
  • Squeeze the triceps hard at the bottom of the movement
  • Slowly return your forearm to the starting position, keeping the upper arm stationary
  • Complete all reps on one arm before switching to the other
