About this exercise

The Cable Shoulder Internal Rotation is a rotator cuff exercise performed with the arm at the side and elbow bent at 90 degrees. The cable supplies consistent resistance as you rotate the forearm inward across the body, targeting the subscapularis — the primary shoulder internal rotator.

How to Perform

  • Set the cable pulley to elbow height and attach a single D-handle
  • Stand side-on to the cable machine and grasp the handle with the hand farthest from it
  • Keep your elbow tucked against your side and bent to 90 degrees, forearm pointing toward the machine
  • Rotate your forearm inward across your body while keeping your elbow fixed to your side
  • Continue until your forearm points across the front of your torso or as far as comfortable
  • Pause at the end of the range, then slowly return to the starting position with control
  • Complete all reps, then switch sides
