About this exercise

The cable seated one arm alternate row is a unilateral back exercise performed at a seated cable row station, alternating between the left and right arm each repetition. Training one arm at a time allows for a greater range of motion and helps correct muscle imbalances between sides.

How to Perform

  • Sit at the cable row station, attach a single D-handle, and plant your feet firmly on the footrests
  • Grip the handle with one hand in a neutral or overhand grip, arm extended forward
  • Keeping your torso upright, pull the handle toward your hip or lower ribs
  • Squeeze the lat and retract the shoulder blade at the end of the pull
  • Slowly extend your arm back to the start position
  • Immediately reach out with the opposite hand and perform the same motion on the other side
  • Continue alternating arms for the desired number of repetitions per side
