About this exercise

Cable Seated Lats Focused Row is a variation of the seated cable row that emphasizes lat engagement by using a wider grip and a slightly forward lean, keeping the elbows flared away from the body. It isolates the latissimus dorsi more directly than a standard close-grip row.

How to Perform

  • Sit at a cable seated row machine and attach a wide or neutral-grip handle
  • Place your feet on the footrests and grip the handle with arms fully extended
  • Sit tall with a slight forward lean from the hips and a neutral spine
  • Initiate the pull by depressing and retracting your shoulder blades
  • Drive your elbows back and slightly outward, focusing on squeezing your lats
  • Pull the handle toward your lower sternum and pause briefly at peak contraction
  • Slowly return the cable to the start position with control, feeling the lats stretch
  • Avoid rounding your back or using momentum to complete the rep
