Cable Rope Hammer Preacher Curl

Step by step instructions, muscle activation and variants for the Cable Rope Hammer Preacher Curl.

MediumBiceps

About this exercise

A bicep curl variation performed on a preacher bench using a cable machine fitted with a rope attachment. The neutral (hammer) grip emphasises the brachialis and brachioradialis alongside the biceps, while the preacher pad locks the upper arms in place to eliminate cheating.

How to Perform

  • Attach a rope handle to the low pulley of a cable machine and position a preacher bench directly in front of it
  • Sit on the preacher bench and drape both upper arms over the pad with palms facing each other, gripping an end of the rope in each hand
  • Fully extend your arms at the bottom, keeping a slight bend in the elbows to maintain cable tension
  • Curl the rope upward toward your shoulders in a controlled arc, keeping your upper arms flat on the pad
  • Squeeze the biceps at the top of the movement
  • Lower the rope slowly back to the starting position under control
