About this exercise

The cable reverse grip triceps pushdown is performed with an underhand grip on a straight or SZ bar attached to a high cable pulley, shifting more emphasis onto the medial head of the triceps while also engaging the forearm extensors. The reverse grip reduces wrist strain compared to a standard overhand pushdown.

How to Perform

  • Attach a straight bar or SZ bar to a high cable pulley
  • Stand facing the machine and grasp the bar with an underhand (palms-up) grip, hands shoulder-width apart
  • Keep your upper arms pinned close to your torso throughout the movement
  • Push the bar downward by fully extending your elbows
  • Squeeze the triceps firmly at the bottom of the movement
  • Slowly let the bar rise back to the starting position under control
  • Repeat for the desired number of reps
