Cable Reverse Grip Pushdown

Step by step instructions, muscle activation and variants for the Cable Reverse Grip Pushdown.

MediumTriceps

About this exercise

The cable reverse grip pushdown targets the triceps using an overhand (pronated) grip at a high cable pulley. The reverse grip shifts additional emphasis onto the lateral head of the triceps and recruits the forearm extensors as stabilizers. It is an effective isolation movement for arm development.

How to Perform

  • Stand facing the cable machine and attach a straight bar to the high pulley
  • Grip the bar with an overhand (palms-down) shoulder-width grip
  • Pin your elbows against your sides and slightly lean forward at the hips
  • Press the bar downward in a controlled arc until your arms are fully extended
  • Hold the contracted position briefly, squeezing the triceps
  • Slowly return the bar to the starting position, allowing your forearms to rise to about chest height
  • Repeat for the desired number of repetitions
