About this exercise

The cable pull through with rope is a hip-hinge movement that trains the glutes and hamstrings using a low cable pulley. Pulling the rope between your legs while hinging at the hips develops posterior chain strength and reinforces a powerful hip drive pattern.

How to Perform

  • Attach a rope handle to a low cable pulley and stand facing away from the machine
  • Step forward until there is tension on the cable, then straddle the cable with feet shoulder-width apart
  • Hinge at the hips, pushing your glutes back and reaching the rope between your legs
  • Keep a neutral spine and a slight bend in your knees throughout
  • Drive your hips forward explosively, squeezing your glutes at the top to return to standing
  • Control the rope back down as you hinge again and repeat
