About this exercise

A lat pulldown variation performed while seated on the floor instead of a machine seat, using a parallel (neutral) grip attachment. Sitting on the floor eliminates lower-back arch, placing greater emphasis on the latissimus dorsi with reduced cheating.

How to Perform

  • Sit on the floor directly below the cable pulley and attach a parallel-grip handle
  • Extend your legs in front of you or cross them for stability, and brace your core
  • Grip the handle with palms facing each other at shoulder width
  • Lean back slightly at the hips and pull the handle down toward your upper chest
  • Squeeze your shoulder blades together and hold for a brief pause at the bottom
  • Control the weight back up to full arm extension without losing core tension
  • Repeat for the target number of reps
