Cable One Arm Biceps Curl

Step by step instructions, muscle activation and variants for the Cable One Arm Biceps Curl.

MediumBiceps

About this exercise

The cable one arm biceps curl uses a low pulley cable to keep constant tension on the bicep throughout the entire range of motion, unlike a dumbbell which loses tension at the top. Performing it one arm at a time allows for a full range of motion and helps address strength imbalances between arms.

How to Perform

  • Attach a single D-handle to the low pulley cable and set the desired weight
  • Stand facing the machine and grasp the handle with an underhand (supinated) grip
  • Keep your elbow pinned to your side with your upper arm stationary
  • Curl the handle upward in an arc until your forearm is vertical and your bicep is fully contracted
  • Squeeze the bicep at the top for a brief moment
  • Slowly lower the handle back to the starting position under control
  • Complete all repetitions on one arm before switching to the other
