About this exercise

A triceps isolation exercise performed lying on the floor or a bench facing a low cable pulley, using a rope attachment to extend the arms overhead. The cable provides constant tension and the rope allows the hands to split apart at full extension, improving peak contraction.

How to Perform

  • Attach a rope handle to a low cable pulley and position a bench or mat in front of the stack
  • Lie on your back with your head closest to the cable machine and grasp the rope with a neutral grip
  • Bring the rope above your chest with upper arms perpendicular to the floor
  • Keeping your upper arms stationary, bend your elbows and lower the rope toward the top of your head
  • Stop when your elbows reach roughly 90 degrees or the rope is just behind your head
  • Extend your elbows, splitting the rope slightly apart at full lockout to maximise contraction
  • Lower under control and repeat for the desired number of repetitions
