About this exercise

The cable lat pulldown with mag grip uses a neutral-grip multi-handle attachment to bring the hands closer together and into a supinated or neutral wrist position, reducing shoulder stress while maximising lat engagement. This grip variation allows many lifters to pull through a fuller range of motion compared to a standard wide overhand grip.

How to Perform

  • Sit at the lat pulldown machine and attach the mag grip handle to the cable
  • Grip the mag grip handles with a neutral or semi-supinated grip and adjust the thigh pad to secure your legs
  • Start with arms fully extended overhead, feeling a stretch in the lats
  • Initiate the pull by depressing your shoulder blades, then drive your elbows toward your hips
  • Pull the handle down to upper chest level while keeping your torso slightly reclined
  • Squeeze the lats at the bottom for a moment, then slowly return the handle to the starting position under control
