Cable Lat Pulldown — Full Range of Motion

Step by step instructions, muscle activation and variants for the Cable Lat Pulldown — Full Range of Motion.

MediumMiddle back

About this exercise

A lat pulldown variation that emphasises deliberately moving through the complete range of motion — starting with the arms fully overhead in a dead-hang position and pulling all the way down until the bar reaches the upper chest. The extended top position achieves a deep lat stretch that the standard pulldown often misses.

How to Perform

  • Sit at the lat pulldown machine and grip the bar slightly wider than shoulder width with an overhand grip
  • Let your arms extend fully overhead, allowing your shoulder blades to rise and your lats to stretch at the top
  • Depress your shoulder blades, then drive your elbows down and back to pull the bar toward your upper chest
  • Squeeze your lats hard at the bottom for one second
  • Slowly return the bar overhead until your arms are fully extended and your lats are fully stretched
  • Repeat for the desired number of repetitions
