About this exercise

The Cable Kneeling Shoulder Press is a shoulder-strengthening exercise performed in a kneeling position with a cable machine set to low pulley height. Kneeling eliminates lower-body assistance and forces the core to stabilise the spine while the shoulders press the cable overhead. The constant cable tension challenges the deltoids through the full range of motion.

How to Perform

  • Attach a straight bar or handles to a low pulley cable machine and kneel facing the machine
  • Grip the attachment at shoulder width with an overhand grip and hold it at shoulder height
  • Brace your core, keep your torso upright and your hips neutral
  • Exhale and press the attachment directly overhead until your arms are fully extended
  • Pause briefly at the top without locking the elbows aggressively
  • Inhale and slowly lower the weight back to shoulder height
  • Repeat for the desired number of repetitions
