Cable Incline Fly (on Bench)

Step by step instructions, muscle activation and variants for the Cable Incline Fly (on Bench).

MediumUpper chest

About this exercise

The cable incline fly is a chest isolation exercise performed on an adjustable incline bench between two low cable pulleys, targeting the upper pectoral fibers with constant cable tension throughout the movement. Unlike a dumbbell incline fly, the cable keeps resistance on the chest muscles even at the peak contraction point above the chest. It is an effective finishing movement for complete upper chest development.

How to Perform

  • Set an adjustable bench to an incline of 30–45 degrees and position it between two low cable pulleys
  • Attach a D-handle to each cable and lie back on the bench with your feet flat on the floor
  • Hold a handle in each hand with palms facing up and arms extended out to the sides at chest level
  • With a slight bend in your elbows, arc your hands upward and inward until they meet directly above your chest
  • Pause and squeeze your upper pecs at the top of the arc
  • Slowly return your arms back out to the sides along the same arc, feeling a deep stretch in the upper chest
  • Keep your back flat against the bench and avoid raising your hips during the movement
