About this exercise

The cable incline bench press is a chest compound movement performed on an adjustable bench set to an incline angle, with cables providing resistance from behind the head position. The cable angle creates a slightly different line of pull compared to a barbell, maintaining tension on the upper chest throughout the full range of motion. It effectively targets the upper pectoral fibers while also engaging the anterior deltoid and triceps.

How to Perform

  • Set an adjustable bench to an incline of 30–45 degrees and position it between two low cable pulleys
  • Attach a D-handle to each cable and sit on the bench with your back firmly against the pad
  • Grip a handle in each hand at chest level, palms facing forward
  • Press both handles upward and slightly inward, extending your arms without fully locking out the elbows
  • Squeeze your upper chest at the top of the movement
  • Slowly lower the handles back to chest level, feeling a stretch in the upper pecs
  • Keep your feet flat on the floor and your lower back lightly pressed against the bench
