Cable Incline Alternating Fly

Step by step instructions, muscle activation and variants for the Cable Incline Alternating Fly.

MediumUpper chest

About this exercise

A chest fly variation performed on a cable crossover machine with an incline bench, where one arm at a time executes the fly motion to target the upper (clavicular) head of the pectorals. The incline angle and constant cable tension combine to deliver a deep upper-chest stretch and a strong peak contraction.

How to Perform

  • Position an adjustable bench at a 30–45° incline in the centre of a cable crossover machine, with both pulleys set to the lowest position
  • Lie back on the bench and grasp a single-D handle in each hand, arms extended above your chest with palms facing each other
  • Keep a slight bend in one elbow and slowly lower that arm out in a wide arc to your side until you feel a deep stretch in the upper chest
  • Drive the arm back up and across your body to the centre, squeezing the upper pec at the top
  • Return to the starting position and immediately perform the same motion with the other arm
  • Alternate arms for the desired number of repetitions per side
