About this exercise

A rotational core exercise that uses a high cable pulley to resist a diagonal chopping movement from high to low across the body. The obliques, core stabilisers, and shoulders work together to control both the power stroke and the slow return.

How to Perform

  • Set the cable pulley to the highest position and attach a rope or single handle
  • Stand sideways to the machine, feet slightly wider than shoulder-width, knees soft
  • Grasp the handle with both hands and hold it above the shoulder nearest the machine
  • Brace your core and rotate your torso, pulling the handle diagonally downward across your body toward the opposite hip
  • Keep your arms relatively straight and allow the hips to rotate naturally
  • Control the cable slowly back to the starting position above your shoulder
  • Complete all reps on one side, then turn around and repeat on the other side
